Our Equipment: Wedding Photography & Videography

OUR CAMERA BODIES

Nikon Z6 FX-Format Mirrorless Camera

We have two Nikon Z6 camera bodies, which are our primary choices for video and self portraits. The Nikon Z6 shoots video in 4k at 30fps or 1080p at up to 120fps, and it has wifi adaptability, which is perfect for self portraits!

Nikon D610 FX-Format Digital SLR Camera

We also have two Nikon D610 camera bodies, which are our primary choices for still photography. These bodies have been our go-to for a while and have served us well at weddings!

OUR LENSES

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED

This 35mm NIKKOR lens is one of our favorites, and one of the first lenses we ever bought. The wide aperture gives us the nice blurry background aesthetic and allows us to shoot in low light situations.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G ED

This 50mm NIKKOR lens is very similar to the 35mm, but the longer focal length is great for weddings when we are trying to be less intrusive but still need the wide aperture.

Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC G2 for Nikon FX

This Tamron 70-200mm lens is super versatile. It really comes in handy when we want to take a shot from far away, and the long focal length draws in the background, giving the impression that the background is closer and larger than it actually is.

Tamron 17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di OSD for Nikon FX

This Tamron 17-35mm lens is one of our favorites for group photos and tight spaces where we have to be really close to our subject. You can start experiencing a fisheye effect as you go as wide as 17mm, but it is very useful in many scenarios.

Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 for Nikon FX

For wedding photographers, a 24-70mm is perfect to ensure that you never miss an important shot. You have a wide enough focal length for up-close shots, but you can quickly adjust for something on the other end of the room.

OUR MEMORY CARDS

SanDisk 64GB Extreme High Speed SD Card

We own about 15 SD cards. These ones have a fast write speed, which is super important when you’re trying to take photos quickly at a wedding.

Side note: the Nikon D610 has dual SD card slots, while the Nikon Z6 has one XQD card slot.

Sony Professional XQD G series 120GB Memory Card

We own a few of these XQD cards. Most cameras use SD cards, but the Nikon Z6 uses XQD cards, which are more advanced and faster – but also more expensive.

OUR AUDIO EQUIPMENT

Rode VideoMic

The Rode VideoMic is our on-camera mic for any situations where might need to capture some audio, as well as for a backup source of audio.

Tascam DR-10L Digital Recorder – Lapel Mic

We use the Tascam DR-10L lapel mic for wedding vows. It comes in all black or all white, which is perfect for weddings!

Zoom H1N Recorder

When we need to record audio through a sound system that’s already set up, we use a Zoom H1N Portable Recorder.

COMPUTER, HARD DRIVES, SOFTWARE

27″ iMac 5k Retina Display

For editing photos and video, we use an Apple iMac 27″ 5K Retina Display with an upgraded graphics card, processor, and storage.

Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop

For editing photos, we primarily use Adobe Lightroom, but we also use Photoshop for more involved edits and retouching.

Adobe Premiere Pro

For video editing, we use Adobe Premiere Pro. As a side note, we also use SoundStripe to find music for our videos.

G-Technology 2TB G-DRIVE mobile SSD Durable Portable External Storage

For video storage, we use a 2TB G-DRIVE. We always back up our files right away, because we are paranoid about the possibility of losing our work.

WD 2TB My Passport Portable External Hard Drive

For our photo backups, we use a few of these WD Passport drives. After a wedding, we back up our files to two of these hard drives and upload them to the cloud, just to be safe.

ADDITIONAL ITEMS

Backpack

This is the backpack we have been using for the past year, and we love it! It’s easy to go through backpacks like crazy as a hiking wedding/elopement photographer, but this one has held up nicely.

Geekoto Tripod

If you follow us on IG, you already know that we take a TON of self portraits. This Geekoto Carbon Fiber Tripod is what makes that possible.

Atomos Ninja V Recording Monitor

For uncut videos of wedding ceremonies, we set up a Nikon Z6 with this Ninja V monitor on a tripod. This enables us to record for longer amounts of time with higher quality.

CAMVATE DSLR Camera Cage

For videography, we set up our gear on this cage, which makes it so much easier to mount the Rode VideoMic, Atomos Ninja V, and other equipment.
